A 40 Gbps optical transceiver for particle physics experiments

Abstract We present the design and test results of a quad-channel optical transceiver module (QTRx) possibly for future particle physics experiments. The transmitters QTRx, each at 10 Gbps, are based on Quad-channel VCSEL Diode array Driver (QLDD) 1 × 4 array. receivers with data rates 2.56 Gbps or per channel, Trans-Impedance limiting Amplifier (QTIA) photodiode GaAs InGaAs. QTRx is 20 mm 5 couples to an MT fiber connector. Test indicate that achieves goals power consumption 124 mW transmitter channel 120 receiver on-chip charge pump. sensitivities QTIA ?17 dBm ?8 respectively. Further improvements gold-finger interface more compact lens being designed.
